KRAUTKOSH23 - UPDATE #16 Inside the Cockpit Extravaganza

Hey,

Chris here from Military Aviation History with the sixteenth update from the trip to Oshkosh 2023 you crowdfunded. Today, let’s have a look at all the Inside The Cockpit’s that were filmed in the US!

SBD-5 Dauntless - One of my personal highlights of the trip!

To be honest, I am not sure yet of how many videos will come out of this trip. I have a good idea but there was so much filming in one way or another, that much of what was done will influence future videos for years to come. No, that’s not an exaggeration - even a preliminary glance at the “inventory” should set us up nicely for +30 videos. What I am sure of however is the number of Inside the Cockpit’s filmed for all of you. Let me give you the rundown:

  • B-17G ‘Sentimental Journey’

  • P-63 Kingcobra

  • S-2F Tracker

  • P-51D-25

  • P-38 ‘Scat III’

  • P-47 D-30

  • A6M3 mod. 22

  • P-51D ‘Twilight Tear’

  • P-40K ‘Aleutian Tiger’

  • P-47D ‘Bonnie’

  • B-25/PBJ-1 ‘Devil Dog’

  • B-25J ‘Miss Mitchell’

  • SBD-5 Dauntless

P-40 ‘Aleutian Tiger’ - Not to be confused with a shark

This list doesn’t include a number of additional ‘Outside’ the Cockpit videos. For various reasons, including conservatory and maintenance related issues, the cockpit wasn’t accessible for every aircraft I filmed. Nevertheless I was able to complete the main walkaround portion of the video for a few more candidates. Add those to the list and we are close to about twenty videos dedicated only to getting to know a specific aircraft, including legends such as the F4U Corsair and the F4F Wildcat (see last update). Plenty of fantastic aviation nerdery coming up!

At this point, a massive thank you to all the operators and museums that provided access, as well as you for making this project possible in the first place. With me now back from the trip, I can now get to slowly putting all the pieces together in getting this content out for you!
