KRAUTKOSH23 - UPDATE #9 Turnfighters and Boom’n’Zoomers

Chris here from Military Aviation History with the ninth update from the trip to Oshkosh 2023 you crowdfunded. After teasing yesterday that more filming was on the horizon, today it is my pleasure to follow up with the first update on the post-Oshkosh filming!

What a machine! And then there is me.

This morning I visited the fantastic collection of Fagen Fighter’s WW2 Museum. With flying P-51s, P-47s, P-38s and more, this is a remarkable museum. Not just are the exhibits fantastic, it is clear that the museum is well maintained and run with the Fagen family taking great pride in it. Thanks to them, I was able to film not just three full Inside the Cockpit episodes but at the same time check off three aircraft of my bucket list. Filmed at Fagen’s for all of you are fully detailed Inside the Cockpit episodes on:

  • P-38 “Scat III”

  • P-47 D-30

  • A6M3 mod. 22

Filming an A6M3 under the watchful eyes of a Hellcat.

It should be no surprise that I am ecstatic about having filmed my first P-38 and A6M3. Especially the Zero is a special one, there are barely any left and even fewer flying - yet here we have one! But what about the P-47, didn’t the last update already include one? Yes, that’s right - but ask yourself, can you ever have enough Thunderbolts? The answer is clearly no. To make it a clearer distinction though, the first P-47 was a D-23 and this one is a D-30. The latter includes some prominent changes, the most obvious of which is moving from the Razorback to the Bubbletop canopy design - that’s enough of an excuse to film a second P-47!

Onwards to more filming in a few days, thank you for supporting this project!
